As we regularly meet at Bozeman High School, our club year follows the school year (September – June). With school back in session, the new club year also begins. The first order of business for the year was the election of several of the officer positions. The 2026-2027 NRWG officers are as follows:
- President: Jim Palakovich
- Vice President: Jay Stanley
- Secretary: Larry Carucci and Phil Merta
- Treasurer: John Murray
A big “Thank You” to our outgoing officers, Larry Carucci (President – 3 years), Xander Kraft (Vice President – 1 year), and Dean Center (Secretary – 12 years!!). John Murray will stay on for another year as Treasurer.
We have an exciting event coming up quickly – a workshop featuring Elizabeth Weber, October 2-4. Elizabeth is a nationally and internationally recognized woodturner and artist, based out of Port Townsend, Washington. For more information on Elizabeth, please see her website (https://icosawood.work). This workshop will take place before our next club meeting, and there is still work to be done. We are looking for volunteers to help with planning, organizing, setup, cleanup, videography, and other necessary activities. If you are interested in helping out with this event, please contact one of the club officers. The workshop days will be organized as follows:
- Friday, October 2 is specifically intended for the high school students of both Bozeman and Gallatin schools. Demonstrations will take place during the regular class times. While it is not intended for the general public, members assisting with setup, cleanup, videography, etc. will be in attendance. Elizabeth will be demonstrating basic bowl turning and making tops.
- Saturday, October 3 is the demonstration day that is open to the public. The cost for this day is $80/person. Topics will include turning and embellishing bowls, platters, and boxes. Send an email to one of the club officers for more information.
- Sunday, October 4 is a hands-on day where participants will get a chance to receive instruction directly from Elizabeth. The class size is limited to seven participants and availability is first-come, first-served. The cost for this day is $175/person. Send an email to one of the club officers for more information or to reserve a spot.
The Bozeman MadeFair, October 9-10. This is a handcrafted market that features more than 190 artists, makers, and non-profits. Our club will be doing woodturning demonstrations and showing off various items made by our members. We need volunteers for setting up, greeting/interacting with attendees, performing demonstrations, and cleaning up. Please contact one of the club officers if you are interested in helping out.
